Workshop: Basic pattern making and how to use block patterns

This workshop is for sewing enthusiasts who want to take it to the next level and step into the world of pattern making. I will take you through the principles of altering block patterns or any existing pattern you have to change to design: adding volume, seams, pleats, gathers, waistbands, different sleeves and cuffs. We will work with half scale blocks and do group exercises and then work in full scale with either block sizes or using patterns from your collection. A great follow-on workshop from March’s bodice block making workshop, but it is not necessary to have completed that one first.

Open to women, men and everyone. A 2-day workshop with a small group of 6 students.

Materials supplied:

Paper, block patterns, information booklet, extra equipment for patternmaking, tea, coffee and sweet treats.

Students to bring:

Scissors for paper, measuring tape, ruler, mechanical pencil and leads, eraser, highlighter pen, sticky tape (preferably magic tape by Scotch to write over). Your patterns to transform the designs.

Parking: There are some spots available to the left as you turn into the driveway and free parking in the side streets. You can be dropped at the door using the circular driveway.

Lunch options: BYO lunch or choose from many options on Beaufort Street within a 5-minute walk.

Arrive from 9:30am for a 10am start.
